Winter Park Real Estate
Anyone looking for a taste of the great outdoors has come to the
right place if they find themselves in Winter Park, Colorado.
Nestled in the Rocky Mountains
along the western slope of the Continental Divide, the small mountain
town has so much to offer its patrons – from hiking to mountain
biking, boutique shopping to relaxing next to a mountain stream
– Winter Park truly has it all. Not to mention some of the
finest skiing in all of the United States. Yes, with all that
it has to offer, it’s no surprise that Winter
Park real estate is in growing demand.
First settled during the Great Depression while the Moffat Tunnel
was being built, Winter Park was first inhabited by construction
workers and wintertime vacationers. One of its earliest settlers,
“Doc” Graves, established one of the earliest settlements
in 1922 by powering its cabins, café and lone service station
by a water wheel at nearby Vasquez Creek. Soon after, the Winter
Park Ski Resort enjoyed its first official season in 1939 and
skiers have made their way to the mountain town just 90 minutes
west of Denver’s city limits ever since. Despite years of
growing notoriety for the town’s ski resort, Winter Park
wasn’t officially founded until August 1, 1978. Since then,
the town has grown in size and population through its annexation
of neighboring mountain villages and increasing desire for Winter
Park real estate. Today, Winter Park is commonly referred
to as “Colorado’s Highest,” having the highest
elevation of any town in the United States with its highest point
at 12,060 feet above sea level.
First and foremost known for its ski resort, Winter Park thrives
on its skiing and snowboarding visitors who commonly hit its mountain
slopes during the winter months. Made up of three interconnected
peaks – Mary Jane, Winter Park and Vasquez Ridge –
the resort boasts a total of 3,060 skiable acres and a total of
143 winding trails. But not just a ski town, Winter Park has much
to offer during the summer months as well. Biking and hiking trails
twist throughout the scenic landscape and many are eager to wet
a line for trout in any of the local mountain streams. Some enjoy
a leisurely horseback ride or capture breathtaking views of the
Rocky Mountains from the height of a hot air balloon ride. Whether
it’s outdoor excitement or rest and relaxation, Winter Park
can simply fill the needs of most anyone.
